Science-based conversations designed to help pet owners better understand, protect, and advocate for the animals they love.
Board-Certified Veterinary Dermatologist
Dr. Alice Novotny Jeromin has had a keen interest in science. As a child she was interested in astronomy and enrolled in a NASA-Cleveland-based program. As true of most budding veterinarians, she developed a profound love for animals and a concern for their health and well-being as she visited the pet department almost daily at the local Woolworth’s.
She graduated from the University of Toledo with a degree in pharmacy and took a leap of faith to pursue her lifelong dream of becoming a veterinarian at the age of 31 after practicing as a hospital pharmacist for 10 years. While commuting weekends between Columbus and Cleveland, she completed her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree at The Ohio State University and went on to specialize in allergy and dermatology after an additional 3 year residency. She owned and operated her own practice in Richfield, OH for 34 years. After retirement, she wanted to continue to provide pet owners with science-based information so that pet lovers and owners could be the best pet parents through her Speaking of Pets podcast.
Co-host | Pet Owner Perspective
From bunnies to turtles to chicks, Janet Novotny King has raised beloved pets as the youngest of 3 sisters, raised in Cleveland, Ohio. She’s created homey hutches for bunnies and staged nuptials for doll clothed dressed rescued baby racoons.
Janet is a proud graduate of The Ohio State University with a Bachelor’s of Science in Business Administration and Marketing. She’s worked in management and marketing with May Company, Brooks Brothers, Esprit de Corp, and Western Athletic Clubs. Most recently she retired as Executive Director of a community nonprofit organization. She has resided in New York City, Silicon Valley, and Connecticut.
Her sister, Alice Novotny Jeromin, offered the opportunity to partner and create Speaking of Pets podcast; a platform to provide science based pet information to pet owners. Janet provides pet owner content and humor.
In her spare time, she engages with the New York Times crossword puzzle while Libby, her rescued Golden Retriever lies at her feet. She is hopeful that her two rescued cats will come to cuddle with her; alas they do their own thing. She is married with two sons and resides in Connecticut.
